I'm convinced that Starbucks is a great place to hang out

As many of you know, I often go to Starbucks (or other local coffee stores, pending on the town) in between appointments.  I do this both to recharge and to do work in between appointments (as I can get wifi and recharge my computer).

As many of you have read before, it has led to more business. I get leads from my lap top sticker as well as my shirt with my logo.  I've made a few friends with the "regulars"...each store has their own.  We all help each other and watch each others' computers if we get a phone call.

I run into people I know here - often networking buddies, and this is helpful as well as fun.  I've run into people from previous jobs.  I run into past customers, as well as current customers (i.e. those deciding or in process).  A few times, I've saw a "customer" in Starbuck, and then went to their house an hour later for the appointment and we recognize each other.

Today, I just ran into another customer. She was sitting outside with her friends and introduced me to all of them and said she was happy with her floors.  She also told me that she would leave me a nice Angie's list review.  Sweet.  Things sometimes just work out.

So, if you have time during the day, maybe consider doing your work at Starbucks rather than in your office.  You may just meet some more people.  I often find I'm more productive when I have a "change of scenery.

Debbie,

Glad to hear you enjoy networking at Starbucks.  We met our friend who became a partner in a patent we hold together at the Coffee Bean in Brentwood/Los Angeles.  We on occasion will meet someone at the Coffee Bean in Carpinteria. A

Debbie, I've met clients at Starbucks. It's a great place to meet but not for conducting business ... it is too noisy.  Aside from that, I would not get any "work" done hanging out there because I would be too distracted by all the people.  It all works for you ... and I am so happy for you!

Debbie, we now have a Starbucks, but don't drink their strong coffee. But, will consider meeting clients there.

Not gonna happen where I live.  The starbucks is half an hour away.  But folks can stop by my office for coffee anytime.  And it's free.

Debbie, these are great ideas. I agree that there are especially nice benefits when we can meet people outside the business/business atmosphere. Walls and barriers seem to disappear when in a friendlier, casual day-to-day meeting.

Hi Debbie~ I think this is a great idea. I had a laptop sticker for a while, then I changed companies and now I have to change laptops! Once I get the new one up and running, I'll get a new sticker and try this out!

I love Starbucks too and enjoy stopping in when I have time to get a latte or a Very Berry Hibiscus Iced Tea.

Debbie, I love hanging out at Starbucks-I just wish I liked their coffee-it is way to strong and bitter for me-even the blonde roast.  But I know that you always meet people.

Debbie, I work from my home office but Tom and I have decided to do this. We need a logo first, then we'll have some shirts made up for Tom, get a laptop sticker or magnet and head off to Starbucks and other coffee venues in town. We're not getting out into the community enough and this may just be what the doctor ordered.
