A Refuge For Pets Whose Owners Can No Longer Care For Them In The Sarasota Area.
Dontes Den is the personal dream of Marsha Panuce, a longtime Sarasota resident. Dontes Den is named after Marsha's late standard schnauzer, Donte, and will be Florida's first long-term care facility for dogs. Construction is currently underway on 50 acres in Myakka City and is expected to open in early 2015.
Dontes Den will be a safe haven for pets whose owners have passed away or can no long care for them; either because their owners are moving into nursing homes that won't take pets or military personnel on lengthy deployments. Each dog will have its own home with a porch and access to the center's large grassy pastures. In addition, there will be a surgery center with the latest and most sophisticated technology.
"We hope this can be something we can expand to other places," according to Marsha. "There is a need out there for our military personnel and for people who can no longer care for their animals. They shouldn't end up in crowded shelters."
You can also follow Dontes Den on Facebook where they will occasionally share some special discounts.
