Turkey Trot Along the American River Parkway

By
Real Estate Agent

Because of the drought in our vicinity, the new California Gold is the color of our grasses and shrubbery.  This picture, taken along The American River Parkway, finds a family of wild turkeys doing the Turkey Trot while foraging for food.

The deer, the turkeys, the rabbits, the coyotes, and I, are all hoping for an early winter with plenty of rain!

I take pictures for the purpose of remembering fond times.  I do not impose copyright restrictions on this photo, so you may feel free to use, or distribute as you wish.  However, should you need a Real Estate Professional in the Greater Sacramento area, I hope that you will contact me by email or by visiting my website www.myrljeffcoat.com - Thank You!

Praying for California to receive some much needed rain. From the news stories I hear California is really dry. Our area is parched too but we were blessed with some rain in the summer that we don't normally receive. Yet our lakes remain low and this is our 3rd summer of drought.

There has to be a happy medium when it comes to the rain or all you get is mud!

Considering how little rain we have had, there seems to be plenty of life around the American River Parkway Myrl.

Hi Myrl, I recall back in the late 70's when I came to CA for the first time.  While it might not have  been a drought year? traveling around the back country in northern CA, I found this beautiful blue lake and golden tall grass surrounding it. I sat in it and it really impressed me how soft and willowy it was. What these turkeys are trotting through doesn't look like what I remember, :)

Myrl,

We would constantly see wild turkeys in Napa, they would just appear in a batch.  Right around Thanksgiving a turkey appeared in our yard in LA, and then flew off to perch on top of our pool house.  The cats were aghast.  They kept  wondering, what the heck is that?  I called animal control, and they had no answer.  Our gardener showed up and he recognized the turkey.  It was the pet of a gentleman who lived one street away from us...the turkey found its way home.  LOL A

Teral - I have relatives near you in Frisco, Texas.  They talk about the drought there too.

Paul - Absolutely!  You need to be careful what you ask for!

Tom - The critters along the American River are fortunate that water is near by.

William - When grasses first turn golden they still have some resilence in the blades.  But, as summer progresses the limberness declines.

Alexandra - That turkey who showed up close to Thanksgiving probably doesn't know how fortunate he was to of dodged a bullet. . .LOL

Laura - The wildlife along the American River Parkway, seem to be weathering the drought reasonably well!

Myrl, you are sure right about the grass!  You do see some rain and right now!

We saw about five turkeys in a field about six weeks ago which was very unusual for us.  I have heard that they are a very smart and cautious bird and very hard to successfully hunt.  Beautiful picture Myrl!  You always are at the ready for a quick pic!

Hi Myrl, we are really in the middle of a horrible drought, and that photo really exemplifies it. So sorry for the animals. It is horrible for the state and increases fire danger too. Hopefully we have a really wet winter!!!!

Hi Myrl... I like the photo of the turkeys... We're in no drought here in Washington, but for the most part it's a little warmer this year than it has been for several and a lot less rain than normal. Which equates to on my travels around the area I've seen a lot of critters doing the same, they're out looking for water and things to eat. Here's hoping you'll get some much needed rain soon!

Myrl, I had a trot like this right through my backyard this week. It was a Kodak moment but all I had was my cellphone.

Myrl, I have been following the stories on the drought in California.  I certainly hope you get rain, but the kind that actually seeps in inside of just running off.

Bless you, and I loved the turkeys and your post!
