My Time is Worth More Than "Google Juice"

By
Home Inspector with Complete Home Inspections, Inc. TN Lic#050

Earlier today I read a post from Anna Banana about the new Google Algorithms. Who in their right or even left mind will write a 1000 word post. I really have to wonder who has the time to read a wall of words? To me, that is what a 1000 word post is. I will admit that I am a driver personality and I want things short, concise and succinct. Give me the facts - not the fluff! However, I understand that there are those who want the touchy-feely, long winded, bore me with the details version of whatever! That is fine with me - different strokes.
Don’t look for me to write a 1000 word post anytime soon. My time is worth more than Google Juice.

Who has time to read all that stuff?  I will see what all the fuss is about over on Anna's blog.

I'm with you on the 1,000 words.  Elevator pitch. I like the elevator pitch, not the fairy tale story.

Michael my blogs tend to be rather long winded, but I don't think I have every written a 1,000 word blog.  I am not a touchy-feely kind of guy, but long winded, bore me with the details may apply to many of my blogs :)

Actually, while I cannot imagine writing a 1,000 word post, I don't mind reading one as long as it holds my interest. George Souto 's comment made me laugh, because I enjoy his long posts very much as they are full of great info.

I would have to disagree with you...and strongly...if your target is the consumer.  (totally different about reading/commenting on blog posts here).

I've written several comments about this lately.  My 2 top posts are about 1000 and 1500 words respectively.  my top post gets over 6000 clicks a month and 2nd one gets over 5000 per month.  They both have about 60,000 clicks in total...so far.  I can tell from time on page that my customers are reading and I get tons of calls and positive feedback from those 2 articles.

It is well worth it.

any, yes, you need to write well, organize well, good spacing, lots of pictures.

and, BTW, this is not new news. I've been hearing about this concept for well over 2 years.

this is also why it's a waste of time to try to write 20 posts a week on here.  Your time would be better spent writing one quality post per week (or per month).  It will get you way more biz than 20 short/meaningless posts.

just my 2 cents.

Michael, I don't think I've ever written a 1000 word post, I know I wouldn't want to read one and I find it hard to believe that a majority of people would want to, but after reading Debbie,s comments #9,10, I may rethink that...I will give it a try.

For me, my posts will always end up as long as they end up.  If there is a "game" I just am not going to play.  I have always known that longer posts do better in terms of hits---whether it is here on AR or on my own website.  Somewhere between 500 and 1000 seems easy enough to do and get results.  One of my most popular is something close to 2000 words.  The thing about longer posts is the more information that will likely be available to search terms even without targeting specific words.  While we here in the rain may not be interested in spending the time reading a 1000 word post the consumer apparently is.

OK, just repeat your favorite 100 words ten times.    I wonder if Google would mind?

I average about 120-130 words per post.  I for the life of me can't imagine writing a post 1,000 words in length and making it interesting

Charles Buell good point. I write the blog posts to answer the question or topic - some are longer/some are shorter.  I am not going for an arbitrary word count, but I am mentioning that many of my articles that do the best tend to be longer.  There is also a lot of research about how longer articles are shared more on social media - another signal that customers find this info useful.

My #3 post is 970 words w/ over 3700 clicks/month

My #4 post is only 504 words and gets over 3,300 clicks/month

Depends on the topic and what is needed to cover it...more word is not necessarily better..but sometimes necessary.
