YouTube has been around for many years.  Lots of people have used it to share funny and interesting videos with friends and family for quite some time.  Others use YouTube to promote the more outrageous types of videos in hopes that they'll go viral and earn some money for them.  Until more recently, it's been overlooked as a valuable tool for driving more traffic to your website and blog.

YouTube already provides you with just about everything you need to create and promote your own videos.  You even get your own channel that can be categorized with playlists.

If you don't already have a YouTube account, hustle on over to https://www.youtube.com and create a free account now.  Then, create  categories that match the topic of your videos.  Be sure to add keywords and keyword-rich descriptions and titles to your videos.  Don't forget to geo-tag your video, too.  By doing this, people will be able to find and share them.  Ask your social media friends and contacts to share them, too.  The more your video is clicked and watched, and the better optimized your video is, the more Google perceives it to be worthy of a good ranking.

Attention spans are short.  So, getting a lot of information into a video that's less than 2 minutes can be a challenge.  Don't go over 4 minutes, though, or your audience may lose interest.  An exception would be a tutorial video.  Since people know that more time is need for tutorials, those videos can be around ten minutes or so.  If you need more time than that, break your video up into sections or sub-topics.

If you find yourself stuck for an idea of what to create your video about, do a YouTube search and see what other people in your market are doing their videos about.  Then, make yours better and more interesting.

YouTube has an Analytics section with information similar to Google Analytics.  Check it out often to see how many times your video is being watched, who's watching it and other demographic information.

YouTube is a powerful marketing tool for driving more traffic to your website and blog.  If we could capture a fraction of the over one billion people who visit YouTube each month, life would be sweet!  Six  billion hours of video watching is done monthly on YouTube.  (Statistics provided by YouTube Statistics)  Sales usually boil down to numbers and these are numbers we can't ignore.
