TIME TO SHRED

I was cleaning out an old file cabinet left behind from the previous owner of the company and thinking... what am I going to do with this stuff? These were not sensitive customer files, just plat maps and development information collected by the previous owner, a property appraiser.

I could have spent hours going through each file looking for info I may or may not use.... some day.... but I'm opting to just get rid of the clutter. Just in case there is some personal information in there I'm going to take the paper to a recycling center and have it shred.

Here in Minot we have a company called Kalix that does the job. I like using Kalix because their focus is helping the mentally handicapped. There are other places in town that shred and do a good job but it's nice to use a service that focuses on helping others. If you live in the Minot area please check them out.

The conscientious protection of potentially sensitive data is the sign of a professional. Well done!

Me too Diana. In many areas of life I'm a hoarder but not when it comes to paper. As soon as I can get rid of it I do other wise I find it a huge distraction and become overwhelmed with it.

Thanks Gary, that's a nice compliment.

My very first broker helped me stop holding onto every paper "in case I need it some day" by telling me to immediately put it in a file drawer if it would help me win a court case, but put it in the circular file if it falls into any other category.

Smart move Bob, I keep files of everything on my computer, just scan and save to a folder. Anything personal becomes firestarter for the backyard firepit!

I get a lot of calls to do this.  I live in the country with an outdoor wood furnace.

In the winter I burn my docs I need destroyed.  Summer, I burn them in the campfire.  Much cheaper that way!

Bob "RealMan" Timm Getting rid of paper in a timely manner is not something I do well. I need to be more proactive at this.

Norma,

My 1st Broker was the opposite. He set me on a bad path and I already was a hoarder. I'm glad I broke the cycle and have no trouble releasing "junk" paper.

Debbie & William, encouraging words as I am thought of by my neighbors as a pyromaniac. I'm not as efficient as you William that I actually make use of the heat.

Wayne, you can't be perfect. I'm willing to bet you are a lot more efficient than I in many ways.
