My entry for the wildflower contest - Beautiful blooms along the highway in Bastrop County, Texas, THEY ARE WILD NOW!

Driving down Hwy 71 towards Smithville inBastrop CountyI had to pull over to share this with you all. Of course with spring here, the blue bonnets are out, but this is something that we have not seen in a few years. These loblolly pines are approx. forty to sixty feet tall. These vines have spread back into the trees off the highway and it encompasses about a half acre. It is amazing to stand in the trees and look up at all these flowers. They look very hearty but the flowers themselves are very delicate and they are very aromatic! They wont be out long so if you are in the area, which is just past the 95/Loop 150/Tahitian Drive and Hwy 71 corner, put on your flashers, pull off the highway, and see for yourselves!

Deb, beautiful photo's, don't you just love spring! The Loblolly Pine is one of my favorite trees, I pass a stand of them on the way to the lake. I may have to do some R & D on your slide show, very cool!

Those look like Wisteria vines . They are great to plant on fences and trellises

Misty, Charles, Debbie, and Trey:  I think that they are wisteria gone wild.  Boy what a site when you stand under them.  And it smells so wonderful.  Unfortunately the blooms don't last very long and as quick as this was originally posted now they are gone.  Hopefully they will be back next spring.
