Tradition says if you really want to sell your home quickly you should bury a statue of St. Joseph upside down in the yard of the home. A special prayer is said for 10 days and at the end of that time, you are to dig up the statue and place it in a place of prominence in the house and continue the prayer daily. We know Realtors and homeowners alike who can detail successful experience with this practice.
The tradition goes back thousands of years. It is believed that because St. Joseph is the patron saint of home and family and prayers to him for help will send buyers to the home. Very often when we list a house ...there is a whisper of ..."Do you think we should bury a statue of St. Joseph ?" We say....whatever you believe in is what you should do.
This tradition was very popular in the 1980’s and early 1990’s realtors bought small plastic statues of St. Joseph by the case and buried them in the yards of their listings. A priest friend of the family said he had blessed many of the statues for both parishioners and Realtors.
What is the right spot to bury a St. Joseph statue in order to help your home sell faster? There are different stories on the placement...next to the for sale sign, in a flower bed, right side up, upside down, 12" down so it will not be easy to get out or too hard to dig up at the end of 10 days.
Statues are available at religious supply stores, kits with the prayer included are found in hardware stores and on the internet.
We suggest you call a Realtor if you want to Sell your home....in southeastern Wisconsin, Call the Hansons and if St. Joseph wants to help, that is just fine with us !
