I Think You Got All the Usefulness Out of That Wooden Post,

Let’s Replace It With A New One.

My wife and I have been taking up walking as a form of regular exercise. We often do hiking in the foothill on wooded trails in nature. By getting out there in the forested areas, I can see trees that have fallen over time and are just rotting with time. This is normal.

Wood will rot and return to the earth, that is just how things work out. The tree has a life, it dies, and decays. When I see this, I think of all the rotted wood that I come across over the years. Not the wood in the forest but the wood used in building. If not protected against decay, wood will eventually breakdown.

I saw this short post used to support a retaining wall in Carmichael yesterday, I think it has reached its maximum live expectancy. Time to let this one go and call a contractor to replace this retaining wall post.

Hello Tom,  Never figure how long a fence post life is.  Thanks for pointing this out.

Tom, I definitely would not want that wood supporting anything. It sure has outlived its useful life and needs to be replaced by the best contractor in the area, Tom Arstingstall.

I know you have seen decks and the posts that hold them up, completely rotten. Many thing that this just means replace the deck, wood normally connects to the house and the rotting would have penetrated the house itself and termites become the next problem.

Thank you for commenting on my post.

Dreaded wood-rot! That is something I always look for as FHA doesn't let that slip!

Yes, I would have to agree that they got their money's worth from it and it's time to invest in another, LOL!

Looks good enough for a tossed salad now!  Mix it in, chew carefully.

Roughage, you know.

Would you have known it was a post if I hadn't said it was a post? I sure hope we can get to these before they all look this bad.
