Jack's Saloon, 216 Central Ave, photo op? real bar? Arkansas Traveler

Found.

A neat old post card.  Post cards must have been easy to have made and could be quite personal.

So what's the deal with this old card.  Was it a real saloon or was this just a place for the Arkansas Traveler to posy up for a picture.  Note the top sign says "Arkansaw Traveler."

Arkansas Traveler,Jacks

The young man posed here appears to be too fancy dressed to be operating a saloon and my eyes are not keen enough to be able to read all the signs.  So I suspect that this was a place where you could stop, pay a little money for the postcard, pose for the picture and be on your way.

There is no writing on the back so hopefully a Sleuth might know where the location was.

From the looks of those bottles and jugs, I'd say it was a place to pose for travelers in Arkansas.  However, during prohibition days, who knows for certain.

From the looks of it, he was a city slicker who wanted his picture taken for friends back home.

Myrl, you agree with me.  I think that is what it was also.

Tammie, I think you are right.

I'm thinking Hot Springs, Ark. because of the Central Ave.....
And yes, in Hot Springs, there were all sorts of places one could have ones' picture taken....on a post card.

Anita, that sounds sensible.  Hot Springs was a tourist attraction and this place probably appealed to visitors.

Yes, Hot Springs is a good bet. This looks like a tourist picture taking prop which

was quite common in the good old days. Now they are all in studios.

Here's what the Google Man sees at 210 Central Ave. now.

Thanks, Don.  You are so good with that Google Man.  This is one of the old, old buildings, isn't it.  I'll bet the photographer was there.

It would be interesting to have a little more information on this photo. Went to Google and seems the background scene of Jack's Saloon was a setting used for camera shots.

Jane, thanks for the search.  Isn't it amazing how times have changed.  From posed photo shoot opportunities to easy digital pictures which will probably never have the life span of the old posed ones.

Ok people.

It is Hot Springs, AR

Numerous photos can be found like this.

A man had a photo studio with all sorts of fake "saloons" or other phony scenery, just so the tourists could have their photos taken.

I discovered this through research after I found an old photograph from the early 1900s with a member of my family posing in it.
