Keep a daily journal for your real estate business
It has been another busy week of blogging in the rain this week with plenty of great posts to share, I hope that you enjoy the few that I do share!
I encourage you to take a few minutes each week to share some of the gems that you come across, people will appreciate the support and you may even get a few points and a thank you for your efforts.
Don't forget to click on the title above, go to the original blog post and share how much you love the post with a comment.
Have a great week!
ps, take a few minutes to check out a few of the other posts too, you will be glad that you did.
This is an extremely busy summer, and when clients call or email me with information that is not necessarily related to the transaction we are working on,
I keep NOTES and make LISTS.
I am never without my trusty notebook in front of me whether I am sitting at my computer or out on the road. Clients bring up questions that I need to research, or give me information on possible other properties they are interested in, or even often give me inadvertent or specific referrals. All of these make my brain HUM (clogged) unless I write them down so I can get back to them later.
AS PART OF MY SERVICE, I LIKE TO GET BACK TO CLIENTS PROMPTLY
And, certainly, if I get a hint that someone might be interested in my services, I want to follow that up promptly as well.
AND EVERY DAY, I OUTLINE WHAT I DID THAT DAY AND WHAT I NEED TO DO TOMORROW
Here are the things I can expect to find in my notebooks dating back to 2009 when I became a California Broker:
Every time someone new calls me, I put down their name and phone and a brief description what we talked about. Later, if I want, I can put them on my official mailing list or whatever. Sometimes months go by and I remember someone having called me and I can go back and refer to my notes.
Every time I research something, I give myself enough of a clue in my notebook what I found, or (and this is a second step) take a link down with their information and store it for future reference in several files on my computer. This includes blogs I've found that have educational value to me in running my brokerage and service my clients (loan information, for example)
Every time I come up with a catchy advertising phrase to some other marketing strategy I want to pursue, I put down enough information to get back to it.
Every time I research homes to show my clients, I make notes about them, the good points and the bad. This helps when I'm later showing the home or on the phone and someone asks me about a certain aspects of them besides that already found on the MLS.
Every time I agree to a meeting or showing, or set up an inspection, etc. I make a brief note. Then, when it is confirmed, I put it on my official calendar on my iPhone.
AND DAILY LISTS ARE IN THE NOTEBOOK
Especially a list of what to do the next day. There is such comfort and getting to the office and finding the list for the day: it gets my mind organized right away.
ALL OF THIS IS IN MY OWN KIND OF SHORTHAND
That also means, with so much condensed information, the notebook is not "pretty", well written with complete sentences; no, just enough so that I can understand what is happening.
Interestingly, when I renewed my California broker's license late last year, this was one of the items they mentioned:
KEEP A DAILY JOURNAL FOR YOUR BROKERAGE
