Trivia 306

I want this to be information one just usually doesn’t hear.  If you have I would like to know if you haven’t all the better you’ve learned something today.  With that being said here is the information for you to consider today.

Everyone knows in the U.S. 911 is used as an emergency number.  AT&T developed the number but before that one would need to dial the “O” for operator and hope there was one that wasn’t busy.  The phone used to answer the first 911 call is in a museum in Haleyville, Alabama.  A duplicate to that phone is still in use at the police department.

Now go out and tell the world of your new found knowledge.  Smile it will make people wonder what you’ve been up to.  Join us tomorrow for another journey into the wonderful world of Wordsmith.  Click on the link below.  Who knows you may learn something along the way and some of the words may even bring a smile to your face.

That's an interesting piece of trivia, James!  When we stop to think about it, technology and communication has changed so dramatically in the last couple decades.  However, when I was a kid back in the day, I remember visiting a little town called, French Corral, here in California.  There was a historical marker there, that marked the first long distance line, built in 1877.  That always intrigued me.  Here's a little info about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_long-distance_telephone_line
