Jerrys Wood-fired Dogs
Happy National Dog Day! Ok, ok, I know it's not a holiday for this kind of dog, but as this local eatery has become one of my favorite spots to stop in and grab a bite to eat, I decided Jerrys needed it's own blog post. What better day to write a blog about a local hot dog joint than National Dog Day?
Jerrys Wood-fired Dogs is a franchise that got it's start in 2003, when an Ohio native (can you guess his name?) brought his wood-fired dogs & sausages to Southern California. I'm glad he did. The funny thing is, I don't even really like hot dogs. I'll occasionally indulge at a BBQ, but normally, this item wouldn't make any of my "top 10" lists. Jerry's isn't your average dog. They've got a large menu of specialty dogs, including vegetarian options, and a lot of fresh, delicious toppings (ever try a dog with garlic parmesan, herb roasted tomato, avocado, crispy onion & jalapenos (think, onion ring strips), arugula, and a balsalmic glaze? If you've ordered Jerrys "Fancy Shmancy Dog" you have).
I've ordered many of the specialty dogs off of Jerry's menu, and I haven't had a bad one yet. A few of my favorites are the Mac 'N Cheese Dog (topped with, you guessed it, Mac N Cheese, tomato, smoked bacon, crouton crumbles, and fresh, chopped parsley), the Fancy Shmancy I mentioned above, and the Hottie Dog (Pepper jack, grilled & crispy onion with jalapeno with a spicy bourbon glaze). Nearly every dog at Jerrys is under $6 and you only need one (Ok, I sometimes can't help but order two, but trust me - you only need one).
Jerrys has locations in Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Ladera Ranch, Irvine, John Wayne Airport, Carlsbad, Long Beach in California, and a location in Dallas, TX. You can visit JerrysDogs.com for location information,a look at the menu, catering options, and more. I'd highly recommend Jerrys as a go-to lunch spot where you can get something delicious, different (again, this isn't your average hot dog), and affordable, without waiting a half hour to eat.
Haven't eaten at Jerrys? Stop into a location & let me know what you think. Tried a Jerrys dog already? Do you love it as much as I do?
