I have been reflecting on the word "Home" today. To many it is the residence that they currently reside in. Perhaps it means to you the house that your parents live in (even as a grown woman where my parents are is home to me).
Today it means to me the childhood town that I grew up in... Frankfort Illinois. Back in the 60's and early 70's it was a sleepy little town that was my whole world. We walked or rode our bikes to school . Once we transferred to middle school we were all excited to ride the bus until we realized the bus route went way out of town first then to our neighborhood, Connecticut Hills. The kids all flocked to the "path" to walk home and we actually beat the bus to the subdivision.
I have also found that on Facebook my childhood friends have really become life long friends. We cheer for each other and cry when life throws peaks and valleys.
I remember way back when we used to have Frankfort Days. Basically it was a parade, carnival and flea market/craft show. I would see my older brother with his friends viewing the parade on top of the storefront building. We basically knew everyone it was that small.
Now it is Frankfort Fall Festival and has grown to rank #2 in Illinois and #14 in the United States. So today I pack up my daughter and granddaughters so I can show them where Grandma grew up. It will be exciting for them and a walk down memory lane for me.
I am very happy though...I am going Home.
