It's only been a few months since this sports crazed city went into sports-mania overdrive in support of our Blackhawks. We don't like having to go very long between victory celebrations. We do go for long spells between celebrations...but we don't like it. I know, I know, what city does?
Well right on cue, some of Chicago's youngest, cutest sports ambassadors have stepped up to the plate and into our hearts. I'm speaking of none other than the Jackie Robinson West, (JRW), United States Little League Champions!!!!!!

Today Chicago celebrated the team's accomplishments beginning with a 9am rally at the team's home-base playing field on the far south side. Afterward, the team rode trolleys downtown, stopping at designated stops along the way, including White Sox Park, to thank the many crowds gathered to greet them. The celebration continued at 11am with a large rally at Chicago's Millennium Park.
As the buzz about JRW spread across the city, fans and major league players showed support for the team by wearing the team colors and assisting with expenses. There were viewing parties at the team's home-base park. The city also blocked off a section of State Street on two days and set up large monitors for viewing parties. Dick's Sporting Goods increased their inventory of JRW T-shirts. Lines stretched around the building of Dick's South Loop location with some people ordering 25-75 shirts to share with others. Over 4500 team t-shirts were sold in about a week. One report had a shipment of 500 T-shirts selling out in 2 hours. Major League baseball and football players stepped in to assist with travel and lodging expenses so that parents and other family members could support the team during their stay at the Championship Games in Pennsylvania.
These talented young gentlemen spoke softly and humbly whenever a microphone was placed in front of them. But as they saying goes, when they stepped onto the playing field, they carried a big stick. They stayed focused. Like their namesake, they remained unfazed by all the buzz surrounding them. Credit must also be given to the parents and coaches who are guiding these young men along this journey. The Jackie Robinson West team carries this iconic name well, and in doing so, makes us all so very proud.
