March; In Like A Lion Out Like A... BEAR!

Today is the last day in March and the old adage that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb needs to be re-written.

We were warned by the groundhog that there would be 6 more weeks of winter, this is an expected occurrence in Idaho. I live in Idaho Falls and we are not in a mountainous area so the snowfall this winter was above average however. These pictures were taken 2 days after our furry friend saw his shadow.

The start of March brought more snow showers and cold weather. That is usually expected. By mid march things warm up enough that all the snow is gone. As march wore on the "6 weeks of winter" promised by the groundhog came and went. For the entire month of March we had only 1 sunny warm day that did not require a jacket. This past week we have had some roads closed for days, do to blowing and drifting snow. Our "spring break" last week was down right nasty, wind chill put us into the single digits and roads to the ski hills were closed!

Then I woke up on this the last day of March to this!!!!

This phrase; In like a lion, out like a lamb got me thinking about the state of our economy in America and how it compares to Idaho's month of March. Things have started out pretty rough and won't shape up quickly. It may be a difficult year for some and hopefully we will all bundle up and wait for the sunshine. It will come, its all a matter of when. Some project our economy to go out like a lamb this year but it may be more like a bear (a slightly less ferocious animal then a lion).

My suggestion for how March should have been characterised this year and what we may be facing economically is In like a lion, out like a ... bear.

As I sit here on my paperwork day enjoying the snowfall outside my home office window, I wonder why I still live in Wisconsin.  Oh yes, it's the beer and fried cheese!

Chris, Texas... you guys will get yours this summer with the bugs/heat/humidity. We will be enjoying the good life in the high 80's!  = )

Carrie, I think its time to shoot the groundhog. He must have muttered 12 weeks or something!

Jeff:

You must have gotten the storm that blew through the Sierras this weekend. We got 6 inches of surprise snow on Sunday. What a great metaphor for the economy and reminding us that the only thing we can control is our attitude.

Lisa, thanks for the visit. Hopefully the snow melted. We mainly got wind this past week with that storm.
