Whatever you may have thought about mortgage posts, chances are, you didn't expect them to have much in the way of panache. With very few exceptions, I thought the same thing. Until I was inspired recently by a post by Jason Sardi - the never boring Mortgage Stud of ActiveRain - to issue a challenge to anyone willing to break the mold on this typically dry topic. And let me tell you, we were astounded by the creativity and genuinely useful information that came out of these terrific entries. There was nothing easy about arriving at our three winners.

Entries were judged in three categories: Creativity and Originality of Content, Actual Mortgage Information, and Lay-out and Staging.

I am excited to present the winners of the Mortgage Creative Writing Challenge!

1st Place WINNER! Janet Guilbault!

Janet Guilbault

One McMortgage, Please, With A Side of Lies

If you haven't been reading Janet's blog, you've definitely been missing out. Her analogies are consistently on target and her writing is eloquent and understated.

2nd Place for 750 well-deserved points

is awarded to

Joey Asterbaum

for

The Mortgage Rap - Sing along! It's educational, it's fun, and it's fo' rizzle, yo.

A most entertaining and original presentation of mortgage information in a format that will stick in your head for days! Go ahead and turn it up... I dare ya! Congratulations Joey! This was out of the box if a mortgage post ever was!

 3rd Place for 500 points

is awarded to

Brian Brady

for

Queer Eye For The Straight Borrower: How Mortgage Planners and Wardbrobe Consultants Are Similar

The man in braces, Mr. Brian Brady, shows us how to obtain a smart mortgage and what NOT to wear in his clever and fashionable piece about what to consider when obtaining a mortgage.

CONGRATULATIONS WINNERS!

By unanimous agreement, the judges hereby award a well-deserved Honorable Mention to Mike Mueller  for his very original and beautiful series of 17 Mortgage Haiku's, Zen and the Art of Mortgage Haiku. He accomplished the very purpose of this contest by achieving notice in two publications, The San Jose Mercury News and Redfin Blog. Mike, the spirit and enthusiasm you showed for this writing challenge is deeply appreciated!

And for sheer comedy, we wish to recognize Bill Engleman for his witty and downright hilarious post,The Mortgage Market and Pop Culture

Finally, a nod goes out to Angelina Jolie for her unexpected guest appearance in two of the entries. Sorry - no Angie pics on my post!

Thank you to all who met this challenge with your wonderful entries. Please don't miss a single one!

Good job, judges!  I'm really liking Janet's writing.  She is so talented.  I have to go check out Joey, but I'm removing any beverages from around my computer in case he gets me to bust a mortgage move.  I will be checking out more of these because financing is the top of my "learn more about this" list.

Mortgage Stud?  Heck, perhaps I should get Mr. Mike Mueller to make me another one of those nifty widgets:-)  Seriously though, some outstanding contributions here and the bar was certainly raised.   Now that the 'judging' is out of the way, I'll go back to visit all of the posts.

Jennifer, Thank you so much! I am beyond thrilled. I must tell you through that it was a little easier without needing to compete with you and J-Sar (not to mention, that purple crown would look so much sweeter on Jason) Thanks to both of you for the work and time you invested in the contest.

Congratulations to Joey and to my favorite guy in suspenders as well, Brian Brady.

Please, would someone make sure Brad Andersohn does not find out about this. He may come after me with his flip camera for one those video interview things....oh wait, he already did that this morning!

Wow, not only would you not expect Mortgage blogs to be funny, but then to have a contest with winners is just amazing. It is wonderful how you created a contest out of mortgage information.

Thanks for making it so fun and I wish you the best of luck in your career.

Congratulations, first, to Janet.  Joey's piece was an extraordinary presentation of the lighter side of the market.  The judges did an outstanding job and rewarded the best entry for what it was; the best.

Excellent work, all.

Janet's ws really good. What a great way to teach mortgage concepts. I know that her extended metaphor will stick in my head forever.

Thanks to Jen and Jason...taking on a project like that! Thanks, you guys. And for encouraging me to enter my first AR contest.

Brady rules. Everyone should subscribe to his blogs...and his twitter.

I liked Mueller's stuff, too. Glad that he got wider recognition.

Kudos to everyone for making fun and educational posts about something that, to be completely honest, bores the average person.

Russ... Thank you so much for jumping in and rising to the challenge! We had a lot of fun with this too. Maybe you should consider hosting the next round??

Eleanor... Yours is a story I hope all will read. Most of us would never imagine being the victim of such callous fraud. I always assume the best about people and this just goes to show... Jason and I both thank you for your very informative (if shocking) entry!

And yep! Engleman is a scream! I swear, that Capt. Kirk impression is absolutely PERFECT!!!

Congratulations to Janet! I have to echo Brian's statement that it absolutely was the best post. More kudos to Brian and Joey for their posts as they were exceptional as well. Personally, this contest has been a wonderful experience for me. It was the first time I've written something for more than a handful of people to look at. It was also the first time I've taken the opportunity to finally read what some of these talented people have written. I regret not doing it sooner.

Lastly, since nothing I've written during this whole contest has been in the least bit serious, I have to say that I think I was blackballed by Jason Sardi. Even though we've worked together for many years and are good friends, I've always been keenly aware that Jason has been jealous of the fact that I'm much better looking than him. I'm sure Jennifer would disagree but, if you compare our pictures, you'll see I have superior skin and hair as well as a nose that is proportional in size to the rest of my face. You may also notice I have a more piercing gaze rather than a dull, vacant stare. Finally, I have a strong, manly chin where Jason's appears weak and unassertive.

I will be the first to extend Jason an olive branch. If my proposed sitcom ever gets off the ground, Jason Sardi will be a prime character. Of course, there is only one man who could play Jason Sardi:

LMFAO BILL!  And umm, I guess I do have to disagree with you. I mean, you're cute and all, but I'm just so turned off by girly noses and shiny hair! And what can I say? I see that vacant stare and I just get all weak in the knees!!! Yummy!

Nice try tho :)

And congratulations on your attempt to out-do my Sardiboy... as I said - nice try! :))
