Vinyl Clothes Dryer Vent

Clothes dryer exhaust made of vinyl. This material is known to melt or even catch fire because of high temperatures. If you have it, replace with a flexible metal material.

Yep, I tell everybody I know. Go back to the metal. I believe that the new village code is metal for Schaumburg.

Thanks for the reminder.

Erol, I always call out the old cheap plastic stuff.  Have you seen where most dryer manufacturers don't allow the flexible foil type as well?  I think smooth-wall is the only way to go.

Thanks for the heads up, Charles. Didn't know about the smooth wall requirements on some.

When I found this out I went dug out my own dryer instructions and sure enough they said it had to be smooth wall metal pipe.  The appliance install guys used the flex foil type.  The rub I guess comes because the foil stuff has a UL approval for this use---but the manufacturer's instructions are supposed to trump that.
