My Outhouse…….

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Referral Group Incorporated

Interesting things are seen everywhere , everyday. In my yard there is an old outhouse. I was told when I bought the house that it was "always there." At some point when I had carpenter ants I was advised to get rid of it. Not me, this is historic, so I had it treated and then the foundation rebuilt. Turns out it was built on old train wheels, and when that was exposed I was really amazed and found myself in awe of the ingenuity used by someone so many years ago. There were things found in the digging and I now have them attached to the building. I love history and history from my own property is very, very neat.

I would want to keep it too.  I have a friend who owns a very old home and when she bought it she found old pictures of what it originally looked like.  She had them framed and has them on the wall.  I think I've mentioned before that I have a cemetary on my property.   The stones are from 1800's.  I love it!

I wish I could press the like button sixteen times.  I love old outhouses.  (I amost bought a property up north for that very feature!)   Thank you for preserving this and photographing it.  I am going to have Chief Cook print your photo with your permission and frame it and put in MY bathroom!

How cool!  It is a neat idea of someone to build a foundation for a shed out of old train wheels.

I would have done the same thing Sheila! 200 years old - that is so cool!  It looks like a magical mystery cottage. It would make a great play house for little kids and big kids!

Hello Myrl. I have found old bottles and things I couldn't identify but an arrowhead would be amazing. Thanks for coming back to tell me.

Hi Dorie. I will never sell, but someone can pass it on. Thank you.

Hello Sharon. Your friend is lucky and smart. I would have those pictures framed as well. As for your cemetery, I bet it is calming......Thank you.

Hi Ron. This was written for you, so I'm glad you like it. You have my permission and when the leaves drop I will try and get a better picture for you too. Thanks. :)

Hello Chris Ann. I thought so too. Thank you.

Hi Anna. Thank you. Currently it is a winter retreat for all manner of animals who always find a way in....it's OK: they were here first. Thank you.

Sheila: You should keep the privy operational for unwelcomed guests. I guarantee they won't stay too long!

That's funny sandy and Norm. I don't have unwanted guests though except the critters who want to stay in my main home. Thank you.    Sheila

Sheila- it is so refreshing to see that someone is keeping the old instead of demolishing it.  Certainly is a conversation piece!!!

Don't you wish you knew the story to when and who built it.  I love that kind of history about a property.

This is a "privy" that is located in a very privy, peaceful location.  I love history as well and as you know a little digging can bring big rewards.  Great idea to put the other finds on the outdoor loo.

What a great outhouse, it brings back memories Sheila....growing up in New England we had a lot of relatives with a privy. One of the books I inherited from my dad  was about outhouses!
