What do you know about GMO's

I have been reading Genetic Roulette by Jeffrey M. Smith and now have more questions than answers.
Question #1. Why was Dr. Arpad Puszti "released" from his position after 35 years with the institute that was conducting an in depth research on GMO's? See page 197 in the book.
Why was a 10 year 2 million study on GM peas abandoned? What did they find?
I don't like what studies report happens to animals that are fed some of these products. See page 48. in the book.
