Does your slogan matter?

As Ritchie Alan Naggar says in his post, Scratch the Itch with Rich Contest, "Every movie advertised, every poster, business card, large corporation, politicians, sports events, committees, billboard users, travel brochures, contests and TV commercials use icons, symbols, slogans, music, art, emblems, rhymes, to brand and capture as well as hold their market and claim to business fame."

So I guess the answer is a resounding YES, your slogan does matter!

The Woda WayYou don't want to know all the failed slogans I've tried over the years because none of them ever stuck. None of them ever felt right. None of them ever said anything about me - or my business. And then last week, just in time for this contest, I updated my listing presentation with a new first page and found myself typing...

Real Estate The Woda Way

I stopped abruptly and said to myself, "WOW, what took me so long to think of that?" Just imagine the possibilities!

  • The Woda Way of Marketing
  • The Woda Way of Finding a Home
  • The Woda Way of Pricing your Home
  • The Woda Way of Keeping in Touch
  • The Woda Way of (fill in the blanks)

The perfect slogan for describing my unique approach to these and other services!

I immediately saved this revision to my listing presentation in Keynote, and added The Woda Way to my list of Domain Names, the ABOUT page of my website, my gmail email signature, my Activerain signature, my other Keynote presentations and anything else I could think of. And I'm still adding it to other places, as they come to mind.

So exactly what is The Woda Way?

The Woda Way could probably best be described as the voice of 45 years of real estate experience - as an agent, branch manager, broker, partner in a title company, settlement officer, trainer, and consumer.

Over time, I've helped thousands of people achieve their real estate goals with strategies, tactics, and technology learned through experience and formal training. Clients also benefit from my extensive network with lenders, contractors, attorneys, and inspectors.

It's a privilege to share this experience, training, and network with my clients - to walk side by side with them into the next phase of their lives as their adviser and advocate. My clients know that I work tirelessly for them and disappointing them is simply not an option.

This is Real Estate The Woda Way.

Don't wait to find the right slogan for you

Who knows, perhaps if I'd thought of this 40, 30, 20 or even 10 years ago, The Woda Way might be a household term by now in my local area or certainly the Activerain community.  Hmmm.... having this new slogan might be enough to motivate postponing retirement again, at least long enough to evaluate it's effect on my business - to find out if my slogan matters.

What's your slogan? Be sure to enter it in Richie's contest. The link is at the top of this post.

Love it, Margaret... it will serve you well.  Just like you stated, your experience all these years has given you the ability to be the living definition of what the "Woda Way" truly is... great job!

Terry McCarley - Thanks for the compliment. I hope it doesn't take you that long to come up with one that works for you.

David & Kirsten Myers Thank you!

How 'bout somehow using "Myers" with "Buyers."

I have been in RE advertising for 25 years before I got into retail RE sales.  I am not big on slogans for agents, not against it either.  I have a few and have not implemented any.

I spent days just thinking of a slogan, asked all my friends for suggestions and nothing felt right.  Casually, I asked my husband, an accountant, with no sales or marketing experience, if he had any suggestions, within 30 seconds he gave me my slogan.  I knew instantly, it was the "right one".  I think you just know, and really connect with the right slogan.

In many ways that's very simple, but aren't the most memorable ones simple? I love it, they will remember your name and also it reinforces that you do things differently and BETTER. love the pictures through the years too.

Fred Van Allen Luxury, Homes For Sale Pomona, Claremont Real Estate - I've often admired other people's slogans but never could come up with one. I'll be you'd like them better if you could think of one that really works for you and your business.

Robert (Vegas Bob) Swetz - I always think of Vegas when I see or hear your name... 'Wonder why... LOL.

Mary Stewart - I think you're right about that! But do tell... what is it? 'Guess I have to go check out your blog or your post in this contest.

Karen Fiddler, Broker/Realtor - Still can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. As to the pictures, I decided about 10 years ago that they would be a good image for the word "experience" in my listing presentation, and it's a lot more effective than saying "40 years of experience" which sounds like so much hot air.

Patricia Kennedy - I'll be looking for your post about how HousePat came to be... Are you back from Paris?

Margaret- I am a new agent and am having a hard time coming up with a slogan. But I have had years of experience in sales, including advertising and marketing, so I know how truly important getting that stuff squared away is. Congrats to you that you have found a catchy one that resonates with you!

Ken- I guess I have grown up with this name and am so used to it, I am seeing nothing there. Please, by all means, throw anything and everything that comes to mind at me because I have been drawing g a blank!  : /

Cathy Hoogeboom - I was a perfectly successful agent long before I ever had a slotan, so don't worry... you'll be fine without one. Abra Cadabra Hoogeboom turns Sale to Sold!  Okay, it's corny, I admit it... But I don't know anything about you except your name. 'Guess I'd better start following your blog so I can change that limited perspective.

Margaret, Tom and I had tossed this one around a couple of years ago. Living in the south, we didn't want to use a slogan that might be misconstrued as a fair housing violation. So we didn't use this one.

Cathy Hoogeboom - How about "Count on Cathy" - Home Buyers Count on Cathy, Home Sellers Count on Cathy, Count on Cathy to find your next home, Count on Cathy for ... Or you can tie it in with your last name, if you want.  Abra Cadabra Hoogeboom, You Can Count on Cathy.

Jan Green - Exactly!

Coach KC - Albuquerque Real Estate Agent - REALTOR® - I love it! That's a good one. Yes, consistency is important. I'm still working on updating my many sites to include my new slogan.

Tammie White - Good point. Somebody would choose to interpret it that way, would they?  Hmmm.... back to the drawing board.

Sharon Tara - Kind of ridiculous that it took me 40+ years to settle on a slogan. About 30 years ago, I used "Don't make a move without Margaret" - but I thought it sounded more like I was a moving company than a REALTOR.

Whether I think a slogan matters changes from day to day. Sometimes I think it's really important if clever and other times I think what "sells" is my name and my reputation.
