Well, hopefully you know the rest of the tune. I write this for two reasons, one is the fact that opening day is fast approaching for the Portland Beavers Baseball team.

The second is the opening day of Little League baseball for which my son is a part of this year yet again. Practice is exciting, but to get my son and daughter excited, we have a tradition of going to opening night Beavers game every year and this year will be no exception!

We don't have a major league team here in Oregon, but that doesn't matter to the little leaguers! They see are Beavers as stars and someone they can look up to. They still talk to the kids, sign autographs and remember what the game is all about.

They play because they love the game and the hopes that one day they can make it to the majors, just as the kids who look up to them and hope to do the same one day. As far as the kids are concerned, they are major league ball players!

The freshness of tiny ballplayers is a wonderful thing.  They try so hard!  It's nice that you have a minor league team to go see.  It is fun to watch them play with such hope.  A great summer evening in a ballpark is so much fun.  Good luck to your little league!

Todd,

I love baseball, I love kids, and I love watching little leaguers, including my two, emulate the styles of the major league heroes they see on TV! Thanks,   Fran

Baseball is my favorite game. I love to watch my grandchildren play and we too have a minor league team here in NH the Manchester Fisher Cats. They have a great field and as you so aptly put it the players are still willing to give autographs, etc. and they love the game.

My husband made the two hour trek to St. Louis today for opening day.  The game went three innings before it was called for rain.  Poor guy!  He was so looking forward to it.  He is coaching t-ball this year, he does great with the kids but was probbaly looking forward to the Cardinals game more:)

My 3 year old Adam starts Tiny Tot T-ball in a few weeks.  I think I'm way more excited than he is!  Darling photos!

Stick with the little leaguers Todd. That's where it starts and many literally become major leaguers. My NY Yankess were rained out yesterday on their opening day.

Elaine - I wish we had a major league team, but I guess that just means more drives up to Seattle for me and the family.

Fran - It is really funny to watch them that first practice where you get to see those that have clearly never picked up a ball in their life and within a couple weeks are having fun and are getting good!

Judy - That is the way it should be, but there are a few big league players that still love the game.

Marlene - My daughter just started T-ball last week and she is the youngest in the league as her birthday is 2 days before the cut off.
