Make your Profile Photo or any Photo Appear to Hover on WebPages By Adding a White Background.

Who wants this?

When they could have this

                                      (Handsome Devil, eh?)

You can do this yourself.  First download a free photo editing software called PhotoFiltre.  Here's the link

http://www.photofiltre-studio.com/utils/pfs-setup-en.exe

After downloading and installing the software, open the program Select File, Open and locate the photo on your computer you want to edit.

You need to resize the image so that it's at least 1500 pixels wide.  Go to Image, Image size, change the "width" value to 1500 (the height value will change right along all by itself)

Now to change the background...the part around your head on a "head shot" photo.  Off to the right you'll see a toolbar with a color palette at the top.  Make sure both squares are white.  Click each square at the top of the toolbar then click the white colored square in the palette.

Now let's change our cursor from the pointer to the "fill tool"...third down left column.  Move the fill tool over to your photo and click somewhere in your background area...it will fill the background with white.  Move around once on the right side of the head once on the left side of the head.  That will usually fill in most of the area but it will also leave a few dots or spots.

Let's get rid of those or possibly an errant hair sticking out.  Go back to the tool bar and click on the "paint brush" tool.  Go back to the photo and "paint out" the hairs and spots.  Be really careful with this tool around the face you could easily slip and wipe out half the face.  BTW, if you make a mistake, go up to the top of the page, Click Edit, Click Undo...easy fix.  You can hit the Undo as many times as it takes to remove all the mistakes.

Don't' worry if your edits aren't perfect we are working with a really big image and when we shrink it back down to profile size, many imperfections will be unnoticeable.

Speaking of that let's now shrink and save the image.  A good size for profile photos is about 120-150 pixels wide.  Go to Image, Image size, type width to read 150, Click OK.  Click OK to any other screen prompts and you'll see your newly resized white background photo.

Now Click File, Save As, name the photo something new so the original photo will remain unchanged, and choose a location on your computer you'll remember.

Voila...a great new Profile Picture that looks like it hovers on the page... a truly professional image.

Hi Rob, I had such a good time reading all the comments and looking at all the pictures.  Very funny.  I already have white around my picture so I think I will just leave it.  I did stick a logo on my head though.

Does anyone know what the size of the profile picture should be, I have a bad luck 'guessing', my picture is too big, or too small and AR edit it in its own way...
