The day after my birthday. 55 years old and 1 day. Holy cow. I have so much to be thankful for and so many folks to thank.
First and foremost, my two girls Leann Murphy and Liz Facenda, who every year, make sure that my birthday is as big a deal as possible. When it comes to my birthday, I am not 55, I am 5. I love the calls, the emails, the texts, the hundreds of Facebook birthday wishes. I like the gifts but they are secondary to the wishes and the caring and the love that comes my way on my birthday.
I thought this would be a sad birthday, my first without my little momma, but I was determined not to let her down. I was not going to be sad. I was going to be happy to still be here and honor her by being as happy as possible.
Thanks to all of the many friends, near and far, who mailed cards, who called, who sang, who texted. Thank you to all of the people on Facebook (I tried to thank all of you individually, I hope I didn't miss anyone).
Thank you to Jack and my boys for a wonderful dinner at my favorite restaurant, roses and the great Roku, that I never heard of, didn't think I needed and now love.
Thanks in advance to my friends throughout the month who have scheduled lunches, dinners, drinks, to celebrate through the month, allowing me to be as obnoxious as possible about my birthday until October arrives.
I am a firm believer that we are meant to be as happy as humanly possible while we are here. I'm grateful to friends and family who make life so much more fun and enjoyable. I'm grateful for my pets, for the nice guys who put in the new windows today in the front of the house, for the weather yesterday, which was outstanding.
If you are lucky enough to have another birthday, don't worry about the number. Just enjoy the fact that you are still here. So many people don't have the next birthday. The world lost a great man on Monday, a friend to many. He wanted us to be happy. Let's honor that.
Carpe Diem.
