It doesn’t matter if you’re selling your home or not, making small home improvements should always be something that you should be thinking about. Here’s a few things that cost little but can make a big difference in your home:

Paint
Giving a fresh new coat of paint to your living room, kitchen or bedroom doesn’t have to cost a ton of money. In fact it costs an average of about $15 to $25 for a can of paint depending on the type of paint that you use. Supplies will cost you an additional $25 which you can use at a later time. This is a cost efficient project that you don’t have to do all at once, you can start by doing one room every month to avoid it being an expensive project.

Slipcovers
Can’t afford new furniture but you want to give your sofa new life? A slip cover can be your new best friend, it is a great way to give new color and texture to an old sofa and/or love seat. They come in lots of exciting styles and they are incredible cost effective compared to reupholstering.

Lights
Changing to more efficient lighting like LED lightbulbs is a great way to give your home a new ambient. This technology is usually condemned for looking unnatural and office like, but they now come in several different options and come in a variety of warm colors.

Fixtures
This is a great way to make your old home look more modern, changing fixtures around the house doesn’t have to be expensive especially since these are things that can be easily found online for affordable prices. Just make sure that you measure everything correctly and that what you have is compatible with what you’re going to get.

This is just scratching the surface on things that you can do to improve your home on a budget. The point of it is that you can do lots of things yourself that don’t involve you spending a ton of cash.

Lots of great ideas. Love the colors on the couch. Just got a new for me couch, love seat and recliner. The old ones were tired. Was more than $50 but worth the expense. Got something reasonably new for peanuts. Just have to shop around.

These are great ideas! Renovations are usually thought of as expensive and a once every 10 years type of thing. Thanks for the reminder that they dont have to be!

Excellent tips!  You can always put a little TLC into your home, just because.  Why not enjoy what you are doing!  Changing light bulbs is an excellent idea and maybe be the easier change ever!

Often times when we think of home improvements we think of hiring contractors, interior decorators, painters and landscaping businesses  but a lot of these things we can do ourselves, or we can advise our clients to do themselves. Best of all, most of these can be done in one afternoon!

Great recommendations!  I have just recently went around and changed out knobs in all of my cabinets, drawers and even a few doors; what a difference!  Inexpensive too.  Got them all done for just about $50 and helped polish my design ideas to the max.

Hi Wanda, Thanks for the great cost effective tips.  The one about changing fixtures is a good one. I recently changed the knobs & handles in a bathroom and it made a definite difference!
