You need to Visit the Arapahoe County Library   (Colorado)

If you have not been to an Arapahoe County Library lately, you are in for a huge surprise!    It isn't just books, they have embraced technology, and are committed to teaching our young people (actually all ages) and keep you up-to-speed in the tech world.    They are incorporating digital literacy into its goals for serving its communities.

Each Arapahoe Library has some of the following features, but the Southglenn branch currently has the most technology available.

  • Green RoomGreen Room - filing green screen video or taking green screen movies (the green screen can then be replaced with a background photo or your choice with our video or photo editing software

  • 3D printer3D printer - which can print 3D modeled items including phone case, screws and broken appliance pieces, padlocks, trinkets of all sorts and even prototypes of inventions.  You can choose to have us print one of our many display items for you, look online at Thingiverse.com for an item for them to print, or bring in a file.  All free.
  • 3D Scanners - they have two types, so you can scan items and print a copy.   They have even made scans of people and printed out small busts of them.

  • Recording StudioRecording Studio - there is one at Southglenn & Smoky Hill branches - and have guitars, keyboards and microphones, all of which allows several audio tracks to be recorded individually and then combined.    There is a sound mixer available in the Southlgenn Studio and a green screen, tripod and digital camera available in the Smoky Hill Studio.   Many local music artists have made use of our Studios.  (must be reserved ahead of time)

  • Convert VHS to digitalConvert VHS tapes - have old VHS tapes (family films) you would like to convert to digital format and vinyl records to mp3 format - FREE.

  • Occullus RiftOculus Rift - this is equipment for virtual reality gaming.  The device is worn on the head and over the eyes, so the user feels he/she is actually in the game.
  • Google Glasses - they have several of these devices which can be tried out at the library.  To play with one, Book a librarian or one of their staff and they will walk you through all the features of this device.

  • Technology for checkout - You can borrow a Nook (English, Spanish or Russian), GPS, GoPro cameras and Finch robots which you can take home and program.

  • Learn Technology - they have iMovie, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite (and more) and all you have to do is book a Technology Specialists and they will assist you in learning these programs.   Have a new tablet, new phone and also need to know how to download various media (eBooks, audiobooks, music, movies and magazines) contact the library and book a technology specialist.   You can even learn how to build 3D digital models, create a website and how to use Photoshop.    They recomment booking a Librarian (http://arapahoelibraries.org/book-a-librarian so they can pair you with the person most familiar with the technology in question.

**Thank you to Danny (8) and Ariella (5) giving me subjects to photograph and video with permission

You can locate a library nearest to you by going to Arapahoe Libraries.   This location will give you the hours of operation, and a phone number to call and see what technology is available at each branch.

** Thank you Carrie Jost & Kirsten Canfield for sharing this information and to inform others of what to find at the Arapahoe County Library.

Yes they are Joan, I sent a link to your post to our local library, maybe they will adopt some of these technological advances.
