THE CHICAGO IL REAL ESTATE MARKET, AND OTHER THINGS CHICAGO, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A LITTLE WHITE DOG!

Buddy Roots for the Cubs - 09-13-2007This was it, folks!  Now I am a true Chicago Dog!  Today, I attended my first OFFICIAL Chicago Cubs Opening Day at Wrigley Field!

What a Great Way to spend your first Day Off since almost the beginning of the year - I've been working my paws down to the bone, you know!

Actually, I tried to get in last year, as I hid in a duffel bag - but the Feds caught me, and I spent the game in stir!  Had to post a couple of dishes of Pedigree to make bail!

An incredible, fun experience - I would reccommend that any dog, big or small, come to Wrigley, while they are young enough to remember the experience!

Dean & Sue - Opening Day, 2008 at Wrigley Field, Chicago - In The Rain! - 03-31-2008The day was wet, rainy - but manageable!  My seatmates, Dean's Team Members Dean and Sue Moss, wore these stylish ponchos for most of the game - I sought shelter under a bench in the Left Field Bleachers.  (It took me a couple of tries to get this picture - I couldn't keep my wet little paw from covering the lens!)

Before the game, the Cubs dedicated a brand-new life-sized bronze statue of Cub Legend, Mr. Cub - Ernie Banks.  Dean's childhood hero with the eternally-optimistic disposition was forever immortalized at the corner of Addison & Clark Streets, under the famous red Wrigley Field Sign!

It wouldn't be a true Cubs Game if there wasn't BAD news, too!  The Cubs LOST 4-3, in 10 innings.

Despite very strong pitching by Starter Carlos Zambrano and Relief Pitcher Carlos Marmol, and an incredible 3 for 3 performance, including a double and a home run, by new Cub Japanese League Acquisition Kosuke Fukudome, weak relief pitching, and lackluster hitting from the remaining Cubs position players, was their downfall.

Will the Cubs be a legitimate contender in 2008?

Don't ask our Team Leader, unless you want to hear a lot of four-letter words!  (Ask me, and I usually respond with a "Woof!")

But I have a feeling, from the top of my little head, down to the pads on my four little paws . . .

. . . THIS MIGHT BE THE YEAR!

Well, a dog can always dream, can't he?

What a classic Cubs opener, I watched from the great room, but I'm still pulling for the Cubbies

ONe of the best things about Opening Day is that every team is in the race and fans are full of optimism. That had to be a long first eight innings between the rain and lack of offense. And then to lose in extra innings after an exciting ninth ... "Woof" pretty well sums it up.

Cathy -

Thanks for the comment, Cathy - and Good Luck to the Mets (Boo, Yankees!)

Remember, however, it's almost genetic here for Cubs fans to hate your beloved Mets!  Why?

In baseball history, look up "1969".  (WAY before your time!)  The Lord was in NYC that year - he simply passed through Chicago.

Those '69 Cubs - Santo, Banks, Kessenger, Beckert, Randy Hundley, Fergie Jenkins, Ken Holtzman, others - were the BEST TEAM that NEVER WON.

The Mets were the heartbreaker!

Any time you come to Chicago - call us!  We'll get together, and show you the CORRECT WAY to EAT PIZZA - on a plate, and with a fork and knife, because it's THICK!

Take Care!
