So, you’ve decided to try and sell your home yourself without the services of a real estate professional. Your brother’s wife’s sister’s cousin did and saved thousands so why shouldn’t you! Ask any REALTOR and they can typically recite a list as long as your arm why you shouldn’t. But there are none as compelling as hearing of real-life situations that could have ended horribly worse.
One of the biggest concerns you should have when deciding to market your home “For Sale By Owner” (FSBO) is safety and security. The safety of yourself, your family and your personal belongings. The following is a true story posted on FOX 5 Atlanta News. (The names have been removed to protect the accussed scumbags).
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -
Deputies are asking the public for help to find more homeowners who may have fallen victim to two burglars, pretending to be in the market for a home. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says Xxxxx XxxxxxX and Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx were arrested for burglarizing a 76-year-old man's home.
Deputies say the two posed as an engaged couple looking to buy their first home. Detectives tell FOX 5 the homeowner let the suspects in, allowing the two to case his home. The two waited until the homeowner left, and broke into the home, deputies say. A neighbor jotted down the temporary tag number of the suspects, leading deputies to their whereabouts. The two were arrested. Deputies are looking to reunite some recovered belongings with homeowners, or find other victims of these suspects. If you have information, please call the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
As seasoned real estate professionals, part of our process is to pre-screen and prequalify buyers before we put them in our car and bring them to your house. Is it a foolproof system? No. But having lots of personal verified information about people does seem to deter them from thinking about foul play. Do all agents take the steps we do to protect their clients? Again, NO, but they should.
If you are thinking about selling your home yourself, please think about the safety of yourself, your family and your home. Hopefully you’ll decide that a real estate commission is a small price to pay to protect the people, and things, that mean the most to you.
If you want to know more about the steps we take to protect our clients, call, text or email us today. We’d love to hear from you!
