Carlsbad Roundabout Nears Completion in Carlsbad Village

The new Carlsbad roundabout (we called them rotaries back in New England) on the north side of town where State Street meets the Coast Road (historic Route 101) is nearing completion.

Carlsbad Roundabout sculpture

The roundabout has been operative for a couple of months or so and they are in the final stages of construction. The new sculpture is now in place (just dedicated) and all that remains is to complete the landscaping, and get rid of those construction poles!

In addition to easing traffic and improvng the flow from the Coast Road into Carlsbad Village, the new sculptur is a beautiful piece of public art at the entrance to the community and the newest addition to Carlsbad's many public works of art.

Love the roundabout, actually I dont really but its early and I have nothing to say.

Its much better than a red light or stop sign but I find many people are CLUELESS when coming up to them and it causes issues but thats just my opinion.

Have a good wkd Jeff...

Peace

David - it is so true - drivers are clueless about these things. It's just not that hard. The good thing with this one it is allows better access and reversing direction which you could not do before. Back in Boston, drivers were MUCH more aggressive about things and they were multi-lane not just one,

Thanks, Patty. It's a very cool piece up close with some wonderful coastal images that are hard to see in this photo

Jeff I love the sculpture in the middle of the Rotary.  Ours are not that fancy or have a fancy name like "Roundabout" :) :) :)

Hi there - the sculpture is a beautiful addition and adds so much. I am sure it beautifies the round a bout!

Jeff as long as the distractions at the rotary are minimum and the lanes are wide there should be a positive flow to traffic

George - well it was a new term for me since they were "rotaries" in New England

Sharon - I want to see it at night since it is lit up. Hopefully it is not causing too much distraction

Ed - yep except many people seem to not know how to navigate these things. And this is a small one!

Jeff, I imagine that piece of art work might initially cause more distraction than not. Hopefully over time people will become familiar with the art work and how to drive the roundabout.

Jeff, I like the sculpture...it dresses up an ordinarily mundane traffic control roundabout.

Not surprising that in the middle of a traffic tool there's a piece of beautiful artwork - Carlsbad is such a special town.  I remember being a teenager and driving up to a rotary to a first time - there was at least a 10 second pause as I thought "um, what the heck do I do with this thing?!?".
