Since the earliest years of Elkhart County's history, families have worshiped together. Before the first churches were built, itinerant ministers visited settlers.

Elkhart County area churches include modern houses of worship and some of the most classical and time-crafted in the state. Catholic, United Methodist, and mennonite have the most congregants in the county. The Church of the Brethren, Evangelical Lutheran, Missionary Church, Baptist and Old Order Amish also have large followings.  In all, over 40 denominations offer religious affiliations.
