You Can Have it All-It Just Depends on What You WantThe quest for work/life balance can seem illusive.  This can be especially true for real estate agents.  Many people become real estate agents because they are looking for that balance.  Is it difficult to achieve?  Yes, but I'm here to tell you that you CAN have it all, it just depends on what you want.

The Flexibility is Great

There are lots of reasons why people become real estate agents, but I think the main reason is for the flexibility.  You don't have anyone telling you when to work or when you can take time off.  You have the flexibility to decide.  You have the flexibility to determine how much money you make.  The more you want to make, the more you work.  It's only when you have conflicting goals that you have imbalance in your life.

You Can Achieve Your Goals

Everything comes with a cost.  If you define money as a measure of success your goal requires putting in more hours both in the office and with clients.  Can you reach your goal of making a lot of money AND having a happy home life?  Absolutely!  It just depends on your definition of "a lot of money" and "a happy home life".  The key to achieving both goals is fairly simple.  When you work, really work.  If you put quality time in when you work, you won't feel guilty when you aren't working and you can be truly devoted to your home life.

Something's Gotta Give

Where the frustration comes into play is when real estate agents think that success will automatically happen just because they want it.  When they work they do just enough to say they were "at work" and spend the rest of the time enjoying life as if they just sold a million dollar property. Or perhaps they feel that they have to work whenever a client says they want to see them or see a property.  Some real estate agents are so afraid that they will lose a client that they lose their flexibility and lose any hope of achieving the balance they desire.  If you truly want to achieve a work/life balance something's got to give and only you can determine what that will be.
