I've been watching for an affordable color laser printer for years and at last Samsung has come up with a good one. It's the Multifunction Express C460FW.
I've never been a fan of inkjet printers because the ink can run when the paper gets wet and the cost to print is high. I do a lot of printing and laser printers can easily handle large workloads.
Now I have the ability to print color flyers at home. And the footprint is the smallest I've seen for a color printer. Printing speed is reasonable and the machine is quiet too.
This printer also has some interesting features such as printing direct from your smart phone. I gave it a try with my iPhone and it didn't work. Could be a minor detail or maybe the printer works more easily with Samsung phones. Well it seems like a handy feature but I haven't had a need for it yet.
Another feature is double sided printing. I haven't tried that yet either, nice to know it's an option though.
There are two areas where I see room for improvement with the Samsung C460FW.
1) It doesn't have a manual feeder. When you have paper in the tray and want to print an address on an envelope, for example, you must remove the paper from the tray and insert the envelope in the cartridge. I find that to be a hassle and have gone back to hand scribbling addresses on envelopes when I mail them.
2) I scan a lot of documents to PDF. The interface for the Samsung scanning function seems to be okay for regular scanning but it doesn't work well (for me, at least) scanning to PDF. I end up with a BMP file.
Since I have Adobe Acrobat Professional loaded on my computer, I use that program to scan to PDF. If I didn't have Adobe Acrobat, I'd have to figure out another way to do it.
In conclusion, it's a great printer with just a couple of glitches that I hope to see improved upon with the next generation. My printers usually last four or five years, by the time I'm ready for a new one they might be light years ahead of this model.
