Autumn is here so say "Goodbye to . . ."

Let me just say I LOVE AUTUMN!

I love just about everything about it - the temperature, the colours, the smells, the food, the good mood that everyone seems to be in now that the crazy summer is over !!

The colours are just beginning to pop on my street - see the view of my sun porch from my couch as I write this:

We take the windows out of our Sun Porch in the Spring and don't put them back in until after Halloween. I spend many hours out there, admittedly napping being a huge part of it!

The smells begin to change this time of year too with the occassional whiff of woodsmoke from someone's fireplace in the evening.

I love to start cooking again this time of year after surviving the heat and humidity on cold salads the past few months. (on those days when we actually had the energy to eat!)

With Autumn now here, I'm happy to say goodbye first and foremost to:

the heat and humidity
the biting bugs
the overseas tourists clambering over our property taking photos of our home
the unsightly unclothed

I'm NOT too happy saying goodbye to:

fresh berries, cherries, peaches
surprise icecream cones from my Husband
lazy days on the porch
gorgeous starlit nights

I am HAPPY to say HELLO to fresh, crisp, delicious MacIntosh apples from our local orchard!!!

What are you sad or happy to say goodbye to now that Autumn is with us?

These were many of the things on the 'say goodbye' and 'say hello' lists on The Chew today. I only know because it was on when I was getting my nails done. I don't have time for daytime TV. :) I love Fall too, it is just what follows that I dislike so much.

Susan~ This year I'm sad to say goodbye to swimming. I haven't been able to go swimming for the last 3 years (due to my health). I finally got back in the water this summer. Thankfully, our rec center has an indoor pool, but it's not the same!

I am thankful to say hello to all things pumpkin....lattes, pie, candles, butters and spreads, breads. YUMMY!

Hi Shar - I looked up the Chew and I think I'd like that program - I love cooking shows but never get to see the daytime ones though! PVR to the rescue :) I hope the manicure was relaxing.

I miss everything green. We get an occasional snow here (nothing like you have) but everything is brown. No leaves on the trees, grass is dormant, etc.

I do have a fire pit off my patio, so I hope to fire it up a bit more often.

And, I hate the covering of Serenity Pond with all the nets to keep the leaves from getting in the water. And it looks sad during the winter as everything goes dormant too.

Ah, but before we know it, it will be March and April again....time seems to fly anymore!

It was really hot this summer. It was hot enough to make one want to faint. The mosquitoes were bad enough to PRAY for winter.

As for Fall I love to close my eyes and inhale the cool smell... the sound of the cicadas late in the evening... the way hot coffee feels warm between your hands as you sip it on the back porch. Yes.... I am ready for fall...welcome old friend.
