World Habitat Day: October 6, 2014
In 1985, the United Nations declared the first Monday in October to be World Habitat Day in recognition of the need for simple and decent shelter for people around the world. Habitat for Humanity knows that good housing and good housing policies are the key to creating safe and strong communities and that adequate shelter is a critical foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty.
Now more than ever, we need sustainable solutions to housing problems. Habitat for Humanity’s tried and tested partnership approach helps families acquire simple, decent homes they can afford, as a hand up, not a hand out. On Oct. 6, World Habitat Day 2014, we invite individuals and organizations to join us in changing the reality of poverty housing and creating opportunity for those in need of affordable housing.
We know that Habitat for Humanity alone cannot end poverty housing. It will take the continued efforts of business and community leaders, governments, volunteers, corporations, and other partners. With your help, we can change the reality for future generations in our community and around the globe.
