Concerned About A Rodent Problem?

Stop Feeding Them!

I was asked to take a look at an apartment that the residents were complaining about having mice. I found this odd because the community has always been clean of rodents, except for the occasional squirrel nesting in the attic.

While talking to the resident who had a concern about the mice that they have seen and heard in the kitchen usually, I was about to get enough information to begin looking around the unit. It surely wasn't the cleanest place but I have seen worse.

In the kitchen, I wanted to look behind the refrigerator. It didn't really roll as smoothly as most do. I discovered there was a lot of food and junk behind the frig. In fact the food that was plentiful, pushing the frig back revealed why pulling it out was so difficult.

So if you want to help prevent mice from living in your unit, stop feeding them!

Yes, I can see how that would be a problem.  At least it's easy to solve, though.

That's nasty!

I'm having a rat crisis myself in the attic. Acorns in the tree out back are the culprit.  Happens every fall.

Rodentia is pretty clever.  It might be hard to make everything in a house rodent proof.

People around here have had recent problems with bears.  They are wondering why the bears are coming.  I think the answer to your question is the answer to theirs?

Field mice are a potential problem in rural areas.

The problem was solved for me when bait and traps were placed outside the house.

It pays to have a trusted pest control person.  Critter control is simply a matter of home maintenance.

OMG, that is disgusting.  I can't imagine people never moving or cleaning behind and under their appliances.  Who am I kidding, I was in the industry for years.....most people do not.

Tom, very good point, I hate mice and will make sure I don't feed them, not that I have any.

Oh I couldn't deal with that.....If they just moved the fridge out a couple of times a year to clean the coil they'd eliminate the food source.

Good morning Tom. Such a good post. I want to pull my frig out now, but don't have the strength, but I do get it.

Hide the cheese, haha, too funny, how do some people not get that if you keep your home clean, there is less of a chance to have bugs, rodents, etc.

Even the cleanest of homes can have rodents, it's not always a matter of food being available. But there are steps that we can take to help eliminate these pesty animals.

Tough to complain about a pest problem when you are the culprit contributing to it. Great post!
