While I was visiting my mother at the Maples Rehab and Nursing Center in Wrentham MA this morning, I thought I'd have one of the nurses take a photo of us. Gladys was having a good day today, and it was a good time for a photo. Gladys will be 92 on December 1st, and she's in good health other than her Dementia. She doesn't recognize her grandchildren when they visit and from a distance doesn't recognize me. She has good days and not so good ones, and needs 24 hour care now. Gladys has been in this nursing home since July 2013 and I was fortunate to get a private room and private bathroom for her. I knew she would not be happy sharing a room.
It's unbelievable what she remembers from so long ago!!! My mother was a personal loan officer of a bank for decades and to this day remembers many names and "due dates of bank customers!!" My mother had people working under her, but if there were collections to be made, guess who would do it!! She ran a department that had almost no charge offs, and she handled that money just as she would her own.
This week the retired president of the bank was visiting family in the Franklin area and gave my mother a visit, too. What a nice moment for Gladys, and it meant so much to her. My mother was an incredible business woman, and that was a rare find in past years.
So, now you know where I get my height from and, thankfully, a small degree of her business sense!!!
