by Cupertino real estate agent Michelle Carr Crowe
It's always in style to be a good neighbor. Good Neighbor Day used to be celebrated on the fourth Sunday in September, but it now has it's own official date - September 28.
Here is a brief history of Good Neighbor Day. Back in the 1970's Mrs. Becky Mattson from Lakeside Montana, recognizing the important of good neighbors, initianted an effort to make this a National Day.
With help from congressman Mike Mansfield, she succeeded in getting numerous governors and three presidents (Nixon, Ford and Carter) to issue official proclamations.
In 2003, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution, sponsored by Montana Senator Max Baucus making September 28 Good Neighbor Day.
