I Wish They Were Here!

By
Real Estate Agent

While on my recent journey to the Carolinas and Georgia, I put 2800 miles on the rental car I had those 9 days.  I covered a lot of ground!  While part of the travel experience was enjoying some really fine Southern and Low Country meals, there were long stretches of driving, which required that I stay close to the highways for food and gas.  I'd often see signs advertising Cracker Barrel Markets; however because they were a chain, I shied away from them at first.  Finally, on one afternoon, when I had driven a considerable distance, and needed gas and something to fill my stomach, I pulled in front of a Cracker Barrel, somewhere between Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina.  What I found pleasantly surprised me.  Cracker Barrel Markets are charming and very welcoming.  They are a combination of country store with great little products, and a home style restaurant.

I selected their homemade chicken and dumplings.  And, was transported back to childhood, when mom often made them for me.

I checked the http://www.crackerbarrel.com website for locations.  I was curious if they were in California.  Although they are in many states across the country, they apparently haven't ventured into Washington, Oregon, Nevada or California.  The nearest Cracker Barrel Market to where I live would be in Idaho, Colorado, or Arizona.  I wish I could entice them to open an establishment in the Greater Sacramento region.

John Meussner - I can imagine that breakfast at Cracker Barrel would be equally nice.

Liz and Bill Spear - I am totally sold on Cracker Barrel.  I loved that they were close to the freeway, with easy access while traveling - a little bit of home, when you're away from home.

Kathleen Daniels - I was hoping they were in California when I visited their website.  Alas, they are not!

Robert (Bob) Gilbert - Yes, I did drive 2800 miles by myself.  It was a frantic pace, but I packed in everything I wanted to see.  Other than Myrtle Beach which was raining heavily when I arrived.  However, I had beautiful weather most every place else!

Myrl,

I think they would do well in parts of California, and I am sure they have plans to do that.  Your trip must have been fabulous, and it is easy to rack up miles as you did.  A

Myrl, yes that's definitely a Cracker Barrel that you stumbled into. We do have them here in Huntsville, but because of the local restaurants that I'm more familiar with and distance I haven't been in one in a while.

Ron & Alexandra Seigel - I really think they would too!  I hope to see them in this state one day.

Roy Kelley - I think a rainy day, when you are feeling a little lonely and blue, would be a perfect day to hang out at Cracker Barrel.

Nick T Pappas - Those of you who live near these establishments are very lucky!

Myrl~ I'm a big Cracker Barrel fan. We have 2 about an hour or so north and south of us. When Teral McDowell was visiting from Texas we met her at one for breakfast with her husband. Then later that afternoon we met Debbie Laity at the other location for lunch!

Patricia Kennedy - I tested Carolina barbeque, fried chicken, all sorts of sea food, and all the wonderful Low Country food I could get my hands on.  I love that stuff.

Sam Miller and Donna Foerster - Those folks that live near Cracker Barrel are fortunate.

Chicken & Dumplings at Cracker Barrel is my favorite. I love the country stores and the decor. It does take you back to an old fashioned holiday and those rocking chairs outdoors are so much fun if you have to wait... or not.

Myrl, We've loved Cracker Barrel ever since we moved to Virginia and made that long drive to Massachusetts and back. Consistent quality, good service, comfort food. Lynchburg's was the first (and maybe only) Cracker Barrel to be built off of an interstate thanks to Jerry Falwell and we appreciate having one so close by!

I could have sworn there is a Cracker Barrel here, Myrl, but maybe it closed. I thought it was over by Arden Fair.

Hi Myrl, We have a few in our area but have only visited them on a road trip to Florida for breakfast with a table close to a burning fire in early winter.  And on our way back we meet Toni Weidman and Craig at a Crackerbarrel for tea and coffee...a small AR meet-up!

Yes a fun atmosphere!  And they sell those rockers on the porch!

Cracker Barrell is one of our favorite places to eat. We have one about an hour away in Conroe, Texas. AND I love their store!! It always has something unusual for that 'hard to buy for' person at Christmas!!
