Ive been using facebook.com for maybe a month and a half. Ive networked, put up my listings in their marketplace and the cribfinder, referred friends and met some more people and realtors. I've had lots of people surf in to my profile and pretend to want to buy some of my items in my marketplace. Only to find out that they were from Nigeria or Africa somewhere who just wanted to send me fraudalent checks or send fraudalent email from paypal to me and steal my items. check out my facebook profile at my facebook profile Ive noticed most of the realtors using facebook dont want to be political and dont do anything to be controversial to turn potential buyers off from using their services. Ive heard rumors maybe spread by realtors or others that facebook doesnt want them on their website? Why is is that realtors who thoroughly embrace technology and the Internet building websites and networking dont like IT pro's or techies? True or False? Comments and Ideas are welcome!!   http://www.activerain.com/sdw1

That has to be completely false. Facebook is a networking site and was built to be just that whether it's realtors, friends, lovers, or other business transactions.

I didn't open an account yet, because I hear different things, I keep my eyes on this blog before I open one.

Stephen I've been using facebook for a few months.  I post my listings and feed my activerain blog to my page. I've gotten contacts from people I'm friends with, my kids friends who are older and home buying age. I look at it as one more outlet, and it's free. (And my daughters' friends think it's adorable that their mom has a facebook page! )LOL!

I've been on facebook primarily for friends and families to get in touch with me and vice versa. I also have myspace, but the crowd seems to be more eccentric there.

I've also heard about the anti-real estate agent rumor.  I'm not shocked.  I have a facebook profile.  I guess I should pay more attention, but... so many options, so little time

Stephen

I have a personal page and a Business page. I share silly things with old friends and real estate related items on the business page. I think with the 25 - 35 tr old demographics of homebuyer , this medium is a necessity for todays Realtors. This medium creates a trust and open access to a client base that is more computer friendly and literate than any other trgaet group curretly on-line

I've personally had facebook for over a year and I have no problem what so ever.  I use it for personal use not business.  Thanks for the post.

all I get from facebook - it's lots of attention from Turkish guys. I guess they really like Belarussian girls... Otherwise - random people who I meet every day, sometime send me a message on facebook. But, honestly - I do not like it. I moved to the USA 4 years ago, so I do not have a big networking group of my classmates from high school or college. I think it's a good way to find your old friends for someone who grew up in MA and moved to CO after school.

I've heard the "anti-realtor" rumor about Facebook, but I think I heard it here on AR. I've had a FaceBook account for a couple of months now, and it's been great. I haven't tried to connect with people I don't know and just started experimenting with the business page, so I guess I'm not really utilizing it for Real Estate networking yet, though.

I have signed up but haven't had the time to do anything with it.  But I wouldn't listen to the rumors.

Whether welcome or not, it's free and we should use it as another way to market ourselves.  Hey - I'm all about free!

Thanks for your comments. Yes facebook is free exposure for realtors and a chance to spread their exposure on the net even further. You gotta put yourself out there! Good luck!!

I had a past client find me on Facebook and It was so nice to hear from him. It is a great site to connect iwth young potential buyers that are  tech savy.  I have not heard that rumor nor do I believe it, it is just another free social networking site to get your name out there.

I am on facebook but I haven't used it. I went to a seminar that says if the savy internet public is going to check you out for an interview they will check first to see if you are on my space, facebook and Inman Blogwhich.  That is what is considered a good internet resume.

well I have just recently started using facebook for insurance purposes but I have been using myspace for about a year now for my insurance business.  I have gotten about 7 customers from myspace in the year.  It's not a super duper lead generator but hey that's 7 people I wouldn't have met any other way.  Keep pushing.  See what you can come up with.

I've found that certain forums are better for certain things than others.  For example, LinkedIn is a "professionals" networking site.  Facebook is for sharing personal pictures.  Active Rain is for real estate professionals and a few consumers.  They all serve different purposes.
10:16am • #22

Yes I think you are correct Tony. Facebook is about sharing pictures, apps with friends and meeting people. Realtors are now going to facebook because of its recent publicity and popularity with young people- a possible market just waiting to be tapped into. If you could let us know about LinkedIn networking website? what has your experience been like there? Anyone know what the % is of consumers to realtors here on activerain? Thank you for your comments.

I treat facebook for much more than sharing pics. Its not as much a new way to meet new people but maybe to find and connect with someone you just met or a friend of a friend. Its also great to stay in touch with old friends or classmates or people you may not see or talk to but every couple years!
