It doesn't matter how good of a search engine optimization guru you are, or how awesome of a flash animator you are, if no one can figure out how to use your web site. Some tips I find useful are to not deviate from common navigation layout methods. Also, watch people of verying tech skill navigate your web site site is helpful. Just type in the URL, sit back, and watch them click around. Do they get stuck? Do they ask you how to go to the next page? Hopefully they can get around without asking you anything.
