Zillow LogoI'm curious how many people have taken the time to update and enhance their listings on Zillow?  With so many sites now feeding listing data into Zillow it's imperative, in my opinion, to keep the information correct.  Specifically your own listings.  If you don't enhance your listings, which again can be done FOR FREE, do you at least check on whether or not the info is correct?  If not, I would love to know why.

I know Zillow is a mixed bag with some people, but I still think you should be on top of your listing data, wherever it is.  Especially considering Zillow is no schlep when it comes to website hits or traffic.  Stats continue to show Zillow and Realtor.COM are quite closely ranked, with a constant fluctuating gap.

The reason I bring this up is I recently found a home, that should have been listed as a 3 bedroom ranch, showing up as a 32 bedroom ranch.  I also found a listing that showed 24800 square feet instead of the obvious 2480. Skimming through the site, there's a number of things I catch from time to time.  Considering the amount of data Zillow chews on, I can somewhat understand the problems.  70,000,000 tax records?  New feeds everyday?  Yes, Houston, we will have a problem from time to time.

So, do you update your information?  Are you aware you can?  If you don't update it, I'd love to know why?  It's such a simple task and I would find it hard to believe you wouldn't take the time to do so.  Especially if you are Mr. 32 bedroom ranch!

Below are three basic screenshots of the free access you get yourself and what you can do with the listings.  All the info can be updated, photos can be added, descriptions, tours, etc.

People truly do need to update any and all sites with their listings.  I love the way you've featured your properties.  But, aren't you the other geek in the rain?  :-)

This is good to know. Thanks for the info. Are there any other sites that work like this? How effective is Zillow at getting leads, anyways? BTW - how do you post that other stuff on the sidebar of your blog?

What Stacey said.

Do you have other tutorials?  Seriously though, Nick, your point is well taken.  Thanks for sharing and reminding.

Stacey & Julie - I've actually just started updating our listing information in Zillow.  At the moment I can say that I haven't gotten any direct leads, but I can say that it's obvious the listings are being hit.  Regardless, considering it's free, and it's "Zillow", I can't see not doing it. Regarding your question about the side bar, check out the tutorial done by Jeff Turner - HERE

A full list of his tutorials can be found HERE

Guilty of not checking Zillow and enhancing. I'd like to know how to keep up with all these sites. It seems that every time I turn around there is another site I am linked to or my listing is on. It wouldn't be so bad except I have no clue what information is out there and how to check it half the time.

Yes you need to optimize everything you can and by doing it when it goes up once, you don't have to do it again.
