King's Handbook of NewtonHistorical Homes in Newton, MA. I was lent an 1889 version of King's Handbook of Newton by M.F.Sweetser by the owner of 114 Shornecliffe Road, Newton MA 02458, MLS #: 71746470.  The history of Newton is deep, varied and filled with people who have made a difference in the world. Doctors, Lawyers, Educators, Horticulturalists, Thinkers and more have lived, worked and raised their families the seven short miles from downtown Boston.

In real estate this season there has been a comeback of new construction. Actually this is more like roaring back since it all but disappeared back in 2009-2012 when trickles began to be put up.  Homes were being rehabbed, people were staying put.  Lots of delayed maintanence over those years, but the great old homes of Newton were built in such a way with such grace, design and quality that they stand the test of time.  114 Shornecliffe Road was built in 1911 and stands as one of the best versions of it's special architecture from that time.

114 Shornecliffe Road Newton MA 02458Over the next couple of days I will share some of the grand architecture of that time and then later this week show you today's version. While new construction is wonderful, a house built solidly back in this time has stood the test of time and design.  If you are lucky enough to find one on the market today that has been ubdated and taken care of over the years you can rest assured your home will be there long after you have enjoyed it's roof during your time.  114 Shornecliffe has a rich and hallowed history over the years and it's children have grown up to prosper and add value to Newton and our world.

King's Handbook of NewtonNewton is a varied town filled with people who cherish family and community.  Saturdays you can always find families walking together in the late mornings and afternoons.  People care about family and traditions and their neighborhoods.  There are 13 villages that comprise the city of Newton and they are all unique.  Waban, Aburndale, Newton Centre, Newton Corner and all the rest named in King's.  Stay tuned as I share more of the old and new photos of wonderful, luxury homes in Newton MA where there are many beautiful Historical Homes in Newton, MA

Grant, I grew up in Bucks County PA where there a many old homes like this, but Newton has them dotting the entire community.  I, too, enjoy going through them during their open houses.

Susan, I am a huge porch fan myself and sit on my own as often as possible. It works on a 2200 sqare foot home as well
