Mel, Those kind of friendships are priceless. I have one from NY that has been in my life for 48 yrs. Glad you had a grand time. Life is about love and relationships.

Mel, I have a friend like that. We have know each other since kindergarten. She has always been there for me.

Mel, you're very fortunate to have a friend like that! Maybe it's just me, but I do believe it's tougher for guys to have close friendships like that. Treasure it!

Spending time with best friends is the best.  Sorry it was under sad circumstances, but glad you got to spend the time together.

Maybe 3 times a year I visit with my 4 best friends from high school.  We always have a wonderful time.  Talking, laughing, and a little wine...late into the night.  I look forward to it.  This reminds me....we are due for a visit!

     The Bible says that "laughter doeth good like medicine".  Even at a sad time, you had the chance to reunite with a friend, and love and laugh and enjoy yourselves.

   RIP and farewell to your Friend, and my condolences to the family and friends. 

Don't you love Colorado in Autumn? It is an unfortunate fact of life that some of our best memories are made in the wake of the death of a loved one. Glad you were able to share.

Keep on cheering, those kind of memories never go away and become even more special with time.

Excellent post. The thought that for even a few minutes that you can in fact turn the clock back is inspirational and thought provoking. Sorry for the sorrow, but you two handled it very well.

Mel~ I have a BFF like that. We've been friends for about 8 or so years, but nobody gets us like we get us. We LOL all the time when we are together. We're planning a girl's weekend later this month and we just can't wait!

Mel, checking in is always thought provoking with you...just resurrected a long ago galpal friendship from 40 years ago, with my high school bestfriend when I went back to my 40th high school reunion. She picked me up at the airport and we had the BEST time!!!!!! We took off where we left off. So many great memories, past and present. Our girlfriends are the BEST. And your dear departed friend gave you two the impetus to create more cheers and chuckles...a good parting shot.

Having a special friend is a gift. We all need to have experiences like you described and keep our friends close in our hearts, especially when there is a loss or hardship. I get tired of people talking about negativity and staying around positive people. Positively, something positive came out of the time you spent with your friend after the Memorial services. I get it.

I won't even tell you or anyone else what my two friends did for me after my husband's funeral services. All I can say is you are right in what you did.

Laughter is such a healing gift - recently, dear friends ( you know them too) reminded us to watch something funny - often. Bring on the comedys and SNL routines.  Glad you had a healing time in Colorado - I just got back from a trip - surprise for Kelsea's birthday.
