Will lenders consider your social media presence?

A communication from a mortgage lender predicts that bankers and mortgage lenders will be looking at the social media presence of applicants as well as their spending and credit history. What shows on Facebook and Twitter accounts could help determine the stability of prospective borrowers.

Social media relationships with friends and family could impact the application. Those that appear to be unstable and those without a respectable social media presence would be at a disadvantage.

Time will tell if this prediction becomes reality but it is not a foreign concept since the success of job applicants may already be impacted by their social media presence.

Interesting concept, however if social media is a factor I don't think that will be what the official reason for turning down or accepting an applicant or there could be legal ramifications as some posters have suggested. Good post Roy!

This may be happening already. But, of course, the lender would think of other excuses to turn down an applicant.

Will lenders consider social media presence . . . . the answer to that is a big YES. Actually social media is have a negative effect on many things in our social today and it will continue into the future.

Good luck and success.

Roy Kelley ... just now read this post!  Interesting!  I'd never heard or seen this expressed anywhere regarding mortgages and mortgage approval before now.  As a Lender, I wonder how in the world they can possibly implement this, given how careful we must be regarding stereotyping and showing prejudice of any kind.  Like I said .. verrrry interesting ...

The schools and workplaces are looking at all these social media presence. I am not surprised if the banks and financial institutions will follow suit. What can we hide nowadays?
