You have a stressful job where you live.  You want to have a place to getaway...a vacation home!

In Maine you can afford a second home easy.  Or consider buying a parcel of land, and put a cabin on the acreage.  Or if you needs are small, park a travel trailer and use the place as a base to explore from.  What to do? Depends on the season but in the winter months, down hill ski in Mars Hill's  Big Rock, or head across the Canadian border into the province of New Brunswick to down hill ski Crabbe Mountain in Upper Haynesville.  Snowsledding trails are the 8th best in the nation according to Snow Goer magazine. Over 3500 miles of trails to see wildlife, lake scenery and unspoiled woodlots as you discover the beauty of Aroostook County...population 11 people per square mile! That's elbow room.  You can ice fish, play hockey in the local Millar Civic Center's new arena or enjoy skating a lake on a clear crisp sunny winter day in Maine.  There are local basketball and hockey games, church suppers, dog sled races, and miles to snowshoe.  Or climb a mountain if you are adventurous enough...camping out for winter fun at Baxter State Park's Mount Katahdin and its many sister peaks.  In the spring, Maine streams and rivers allow family fun with your canoe, kayak and raft as the winter snows melt and water rises. Maine maple syrup operations are fun to tour and dot the state. Pick fiddleheads along river and brooks and look forward to summer living on lakes, at woods camps and if you move her permanently, hobby farm! Raise critters. Do a full day of honest hard physical labor and feel content, relaxed and be content living in Northern Maine. Heat with wood and who cares what the price of oil is. Grow a garden and know what you are eating...free of growth hormones..just like our local Houlton Farms Dairy promotes...no BST growth stimulates in their products. Hike the mountain trails, 4 wheel the countryside and explore Aroostook County. Night life ? The black bear who snuck into your kitchen that smelled the cookies and maneuvered thru the screen door on that warm summer night.  Relax, pretty rare to see black bear up close and personal....they are shy and reserved.  Pull land lock salmon out of those many many lakes and fly fish the streams that wind around most Maine communities.  Local places to dance with live music? Have those in Northern Maine and in Western New Brunswick Canada.  McGills Band performs in 4th of July parade and in Community Park thru out the summer too. Kings Landing is also just across the border and is a village set back in time to tour. Come meet the fewer friendlier people in  Maine...the way life should be!
