It’s in the mind of Realtors EVERYWHERE! When we meet with young couples that have kids, we think to ourselves:
“They are going to get a sitter, right?”
As obvious as this question would seem to be, you would be surprised at how many parents simply want little Johnny or Suzie to be a part of the “buying process”. Now, while I can appreciate the idea of being sensitive to a child's wants and needs, I have news for you. The attention span of a child looking at homes for sale is just about 1.75 houses.
Now while that might sound amusing, the really terrifying part of this to Realtors is when the kids make a bee line to pick up and handle every item in a home, and the parent has chosen to raise their little darling without ever introducing them to the word “No”.
Simply put, shopping for real estate is not something that you will enjoy if you bring small children with you. It also may give your Realtor a nervous breakdown! There will come a time (and it usually happens sooner than later) when that child is going to realize what they are in for for the rest of the day, and more often than not, they have a total melt down...right in the middle of some one else’s living room. So, the moral of the story here is, hire a babysitter for when you go out shopping for that new home. You can always bring Johnny or Susie back to see the house after you are under contract.
