Two men from OC were honored at Arlington Cemetery in VA last week for their acts of bravery and sacrifice.

Walter D. Ehlers of Buena Park attended the ceremony and received the Medal of Honor.  He was honored for single-handedly taking out a German machine-gun nest during WW2, then carrying a wounded soldier to safety before returning to the battle.

Don Shoendorfer of Santa Ana received the Above and Beyond award because he developed a one-size-fits-all wheel chair that is made, in part, out of a lawn chair.  He has a charity called Free Wheelchair Mission and he has distributed more than 250,000 of them to people in over 70 countries.  Don got the idea when he was in Morocco in 1977 and stood watching a woman dig her fingernails into the dirt of a road to drag herself across the street.
