Big buys can bring big savings if you time them right

Austin Tx - Let's face it. Whether it's a new car, mattress or your dream swimming pool, you always have a major purchase on the horizon. The following tips can help you get the best deals on your big buys.

Looking to Move
Some experts say January is the best month to make an offer on a house because prices tend to be lower due to less competition. Springtime brings more buyers onto the market.

Score Some New Wheels
Car salespeople need to meet quotas. What does that mean for you? If you can put it off, don't buy that new sports car or minivan until the late summer/early fall (when new models are coming in) or the latter part of December. The next best time of year is at the end of the month or quarter.

Born to Be Wild
If heading out on the highway on two wheels is more your speed, dealers tend to offer the best prices on motorcycles in colder months such as January or February.

Redecorate Your House
New furniture pieces begin arriving in stores and showrooms in the spring, so shop for your new sofa or kitchen table in January or February.

Go for a Dip
Always wanted your own private oasis in the backyard? Installing a swimming pool during the colder months (think: winter) will usually yield the biggest savings.

Sleep on It
Having trouble sleeping? Is that old, lumpy mattress to blame? Mattress stores usually hold their biggest sales around holidays such as Presidents' Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Hi George- Great information! But I would have disagree and say that anytime is the best time to buy a home so long as you are ready to own a home.  I guess it depends on your market.

Any time you can save money on large purchases, it is probably worth trying to time it accordingly.

January seems to be the best month overall, and I can see why.  In many parts of the nation it's c-c-c-c-c-c-cold and also they want to move inventory for the new spring and summer line.
