Three Southern Maryland working farms and vineyards make up the fun that is the Calvert County Fall Festival 2014: Spider Hall, Horsmon and Perigeaux.

Summer is behind us.  Old Man Winter is hovering just around the corner.  But for now, it is time to celebrate Autumn.  I can think of no better way to do this than with the Calvert County Fall Festival 2014.

What: Calvert County Fall Festival 2014
Where: Spider Hall Farm, Horsmon Farm & Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery
When: Sat & Sun, Oct 18 & 19, 2014 11am to 5pm
Cost: Free admission
Contact: Calvert County Ag Commission (410) 535-4583 or via email

The Calvert County Fall Festival 2014 is too big to stay in one place.  Instead, guests will have the opportunity to visit three working farms in the St Leonard and Prince Frederick communities.  At these farms, you will find plenty of ripe produce and pumpkins to purchase.  You may also find a corn maze or two, enjoy a hay ride, visit a petting zoo and possibly even sample some delicious local wine.  Of course, you must be 21 or older to drink any alcohol.  The festival is very family-friendly, with plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy along the way.  Please leave the pets at home, though.  Only service animals are allowed.

Spider Hall Farm (3915 Hallowing Point Rd, Prince Frederick) - Activities include a corn maze, hay rides, pumpkin patch and petting farm.  Several vendors and artists will be on hand selling their unique products.  Please bring a donation for the End Hunger canned food drive.

Horsmon Farm (1865 Horsmon Farm Ln, St Leonard) - Activities here include sorghum mazes, a corn kernel sand box, pony rides, a petting zoo, hay rides and mini-pumpkin sling shot.  Food vendors will ensure that no one goes hungry.  You can even pick up some of the farm's very own beef and pork for dinner later that evening.

Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery (8650 Mackall Rd, St Leonard) - This is catered more for the adult crowd with wine tastings and food pairings, live music, vineyard and winery tours and lots of arts and crafts.  There is even a lawn bowling tournament scheduled.

Do you have plans for this weekend yet?  Schedule some time to go visit some of Southern Maryland's working farms and vineyards that make up the Calvert County Fall Festival 2014.  Take the kids to Spider Hall Farm and Horsmon Farm on Saturday.  Then, make Sunday a day just for you and your special someone at the Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery.  Just make sure you drink responsibly and never drive with alcohol in your system.  Bring along a designated driver or make other arrangements so that you get home safe and sound.
