.REALTOR domain: Rah, blah or nah?

Well, we're just a few hours away from the much anticipated... err somewhat-anticipated... err sort-of anticipated launch of the brand-new .REALTOR domain name.  Starting at 11:00 am EDT, those on the .REALTOR priority list will be able to visit https://www.claim.realtor/ and snag their .REALTOR domain names on a first come, first served basis.

My question is this, though: how may folks really care?

I figure there will surely be a number of folks clamoring to get BobSmith.REALTOR and LisaJones.REALTOR because they're common names and all, but I simply haven't heard a ton of talk about this launch.  Perhaps I'm just out of touch and missing a pent-up level of .REALTOR demand that's out there simmering below the surface, perhaps not.  Perhaps a guy will be all over Fox News or CNN this afternoon and bragging about how he beat all the other Bob Smith slackers to the punch and left them in the pick-another-domain-name dust, perhaps not.

It should be interesting, I suppose.  They say that besides the credibility that comes with it, the .REALTOR domain name will be SEO magic- and I'll surely be following that.  But what about you?  Are you very excited, mildly interested or altogether not the least bit interested in the .REALTOR domain name?  Will today's launch and hullabaloo be a "Rah!", "Blah..." or "Nah..." moment for you?

Good morning Dennis,

I am going to take the free domain name for a year and redirect to my personal website. It appears that everyone on Realtor.com gets a free website, the option is to redirect the domain you purchase to Realtor.com. I  will go with nah, let see what it does in one year....

Signed up on Monday, think it may be a great thing, have tied it to the free domain for a year , will gauge how it seems to be perceived.

Hi, Katina:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  I've also done the redirect thing- but quite frankly, I'm still not sure if that's "it".  Will have to investigate everything a bit further- it's on my to-do list!

Hi, Lesley: Thank you for dropping by, and for your comment.  I'm figuring to do things as you've done as well- and I've already put a reminder to myself on my 2015 calendar so I won't forget the renewal date!

Good morning Dennis,
Let me know how your investigation turns out. By the way you can log in and turn off the auto renewal. Mr. Dennis, what domain name did you pick?

Hi, Katina:  Thank you for dropping by again.  Will do.  I went with the simple/standard "dennisburgess.realtor".  If I'd been able to choose anything at all, I would've gone with "orlandopropertymanager.realtor"- as my Wordpress, MLS, Instagram and some other accounts are "orlandopropertymanager".

That isn't allowed, though- so I snagged just my first/last name.  There's actually another Dennis Burgess in the business (believe he's in Spartanburg, SC or near there)- so getting my name could also be viewed as a proactive defense against losing it to him or others had I not taken it.

That's an interesting thought, too- I wonder how many others got "their" name solely to keep others from doing so.....
